President Ozan Yasavur (Technical Consulting | Brown and Caldwell) rang the Rotary bell at 12:16 PM on July 14, 2026 and called the second meeting of the 2026-2027 Rotary year to order.

Today's Visiting Rotarians were Joel Schmidt from the Rotary Club of Monterey Bay Passport and Joel Valdes from the Rotary Club of Manila. Today's guests were Ireene Aromin, Molly Munson, Saul Ponce de Leon, Angeli Valdes, and Brett Villaume.

Today in History
President Ozan shared that on July 14, 1943, the U.S. government signed into law and made the George Washington Carver National Monument the first national monument in U.S. history to honor an African American and the first to honor a non-president.

President Ozan talked about the founding of our Club in 1908.
 
Rotarian of the Month
Congratulations to Eric Orantes (Transportation | Retired) who was honored as Rotarian of the Month for July 2026. Eric joined our Club in June 2025, and you can find him volunteering at almost every Service Project that our Club offers. For the 2026-2027 Rotary year, Eric has agreed to chair the Emergency Services Day event. 
 
Approved Grant Projects for 2026-2027
President Ozan shared a list of the grant projects approved by the Board of the Rotary Club of San Francisco and the Board of the San Francisco Rotary Foundation for this Rotary year.
 
Come and Play Bocce Ball
Past President and Past District 5150 Governor Peter Lagarias (Law: Franchise | Retired) thanked the Hotel Nikko for including watermelon in the salad. He then invited everyone to the Rotaplast Bocce Ball Tournament and BBQ on August 23, 2026.

  • Diane Wustrack (Accounting | Retired).
Sasha, Father Andres, Erica, and Diane each told the audience why they joined our Club and their goals. Janet Beach (Job Recruitment | The Job Forum) is Sasha's mentor. Vice President of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and Past President Tim Hornbecker (Nonprofit Management | Retired, The Arc CA) is the mentor for both Father Andres and Erica. Past President Anita Stangl (Medical Services | Alliance for Smiles), who joined today's meeting via Zoom, is Diane's mentor. Rotarians in today's audience pledged to support Sasha, Father Andres, Erica, and Diane on their Rotary journey with our Club. Please welcome Sasha, Father Andres, Erica, and Diane when you see them at our meetings and events.

Guest Speaker
Speaker Committee Chair Larry Booth (Engineering: Mechanical | Retired, Frank M. Booth, Inc.) introduced today's speaker — James Horsman (Public Policy | San Francisco Chamber of Commerce). James joined the Rotary Club of San Francisco in March 2026. Previously, he was a member of the Rotary Club of Capitol Hill in Washington, DC. While at the Capitol Hill Club, James served as Club Service Projects Chair in 2021-2022 and as Club President in 2022-2023. He holds a Master of Arts in Applied International Studies from the University of Washington, an MBA from the University of Phoenix, and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Minnesota.
 
James shared his hands-on experience integrating AI productivity tools into everyday work and personal application, offering concrete examples and accessible takeaways. He compared ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot, and Gemini. A discussion followed, and the audience shared concerns regarding hallucinations and privacy. 
 
President Ozan thanked James Horsman and announced that 100 children would be inoculated against polio in James Horsman's name.
