The Rotary Club of San Francisco is reactivating its Anti-Human Trafficking Committee after several years of inactivity. This Committee will help our Club better understand and address the issue of human trafficking through education, partnerships, and service.
According to the United Nations, human trafficking is the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harboring, or receipt of persons through force, fraud, coercion, or abuse for the purpose of exploitation. Today, an estimated 49.6 million people are living in modern slavery worldwide, while human trafficking generates approximately $150 billion annually, making it one of the world’s largest criminal enterprises.
While Rotary cannot solve this challenge alone, we can make a meaningful difference by raising awareness, learning from experts, partnering with organizations already doing this important work, and identifying opportunities to serve our community and support survivors.
During the 2026–2027 Rotary year, the Committee will focus on:
- Recruiting an active Anti-Human Trafficking Committee.
- Developing a Committee charter and annual work plan.
- Building relationships with the Rotary Action Group Against Slavery and local anti-human trafficking organizations.
- Hosting educational speakers and sharing resources with Club members.
- Leading a Human Trafficking Awareness Month initiative in January.
- Identifying meaningful service, partnership, and grant opportunities for the Club.
The first Committee Meeting will be held on Friday, August 7, 2026, from 8:30 AM to 9:15 AM Pacific Time. Register here. The Committee will meet monthly throughout the Rotary year, with additional meetings scheduled as needed.
