Rotary’s 1.2 million members across the globe have taken swift action to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. More than $3.4 million in Rotary Disaster Response Grants have already been put into action on the front lines to battle COVID-19. Additionally, millions more have been raised by our #PeopleofAction - they have responded quickly and are truly saving lives. Now, we need to do more and the need for additional funding is a priority.
A few weeks ago, Dr. Lily Muldoon, Club Member and Emergency Department Physician, applied for funding from The Rotary Club of San Francisco Foundation to purchase personal protective equipment (PPE) for front-line healthcare workers. The equipment was fully funded and has arrived.
Now, Lily is looking for dedicated Rotarians to volunteer to further support the cause, by assembling face shields at home. Rotarians would pick up a package of pre-cleaned supplies from her porch, learn how to assemble using an online video, and drop the assembled shields back off in 48 hours. During the COVID-19 crisis, The Salvation Army is distributing approximately 650 fresh meals Mondays to Saturdays to over 40 homeless encampments across San Francisco as part of MealsInPlaceSF. We urgently need volunteers to accompany Officers and Staff as we distribute meals.
The Rotary Club of San Francisco lost one of its oldest members when Marie K. Brooks died April 4 at her home in San Francisco at the age of 94. She was one of the second group of four women to join the Club after membership was opened to women in 1987.
“She was an extraordinarily gracious and elegant person,” says Past President and Past District Governor Peter Lagarias, “just somebody who garnered complete respect.”

Service Project Major Raymond Erickson-King (Nonprofit Management | The Salvation Army Ray & Joan Kroc Center) logged in live from the streets of San Francisco as he began another day of delivering meals to the homeless. Major Raymond issued a call for volunteers to help. Dora Dye (Education: Community College | City College of San Francisco) emailed all members that afternoon with information on how to sign up.
