The Anti-Human Trafficking Committee has begun its work for the 2026–2027 Rotary year, meeting for the first time on August 7.
Our first discussion centered on a key question: How can the Rotary Club of San Francisco better understand human trafficking and identify meaningful ways to help address it locally?
We started with education, reviewing the United Nations definition of human trafficking and discussing the issues in San Francisco, as well as the work of the Rotary Action Group Against Slavery. Over the coming months, we will continue learning, identifying local partners, and exploring opportunities for collaboration.
President Ozan Yasavur (Technical Consulting | Brown and Caldwell) called the meeting to order at 12:17 PM and welcomed all on Zoom and in person to the August 11, 2026 luncheon.
Visiting Rotarians and Guests
Today's Visiting Rotarians, all from the Rotary Club of Oakland, were: Past President Mary Geong, President-Elect Kerry Hamill, and Ruth Stroup. Today's guests were: Salvador Barr from the St. Vincent de Paul Society of San Francisco; Chase Gonzales; Graham Isom who is the Field Organizer for San Francisco Supervisor Connie Chan; Esther Landau and her guest, Alia, from The Arc San Francisco; David Limcaco; Dan Riley; Nick Tarlson (former member of our Club); and Mark Thoman. Today's speaker was San Francisco Supervisor Connie Chan.
Join us for our Club's NEXT EVENING MEETING where we will conduct some Club business, have dinner, and enjoy Rotary fellowship. There is no charge to attend this meeting, but each attendee pays individually for food and beverages ordered at MoMo's. Please register yourself and your guests so that we can plan the space.
Rotaplast started as a world community service project of the Rotary Club of San Francisco in 1992-1993, and since then, has sponsored over 200 missions and helped over 20,000 children. Bring smiles to children around the world by participating in (or supporting) this tournament with Rotary clubs throughout our District 5150 and beyond. Funds raised will benefit the mission in Nagamangala, India.
Dixie James, a retired Special Education teacher, joins us to share her inspiring journey and challenges in raising a daughter born with Down syndrome and heart disease from birth to adulthood and from dependence to being able to live independently.
Join Family House, a grant partner for the Rotary Club of San Francisco. Our Club will sponsor a catered dinner for that evening. Volunteers will help support the evening, participate in a cleaning project, and spend time with approximately 70 Family House families and staff. Event is limited to 10 people, and Rotarians may bring a guest. Volunteers are encouraged to wear Rotary-branded attire that can get dirty, as well as layers to be prepared for multiple weather conditions.

In honor of the Labor Day holiday weekend, there is no Rotary Luncheon on September 8, 2026. Our next meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 15, 2026.
