In an inspiring display of community spirit, our Club members, along with Rotarians from District 5150, came together for the San Francisco Walk to End Alzheimer’s on Saturday, October 19, 2024.
A standout moment of the day was our Club’s enthusiastic participation. Dressed in our custom bright neon yellow vests, our members were a symbol of unity and commitment, instantly recognizable throughout the event. In fact, our Club members proudly led the walk procession!
President Bob Hermann, Jr. (Information Technology: Administration | Retired) rang the Rotary bell at 6:35 PM and called to order our Club's fourth evening meeting at MoMo's. He welcomed everyone in the audience and noted that today (October 24, 2024) was Rotary's annual World Polio Day. Rotarians around the world use this day as an opportunity to showcase the status of the eradication effort and to reiterate steps that need to be taken to ultimately achieve a lasting world free of all polioviruses. President Bob reported that currently 55 cases of polio have occurred in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

This evening's Visiting Rotarians were Volodymyr Goshylyk from the Rotary Club of Berkeley and Jean Akide from the Rotary Club of Nairobi. Our guests were Jennifer Braschayko, Mary Gorski, Claudia Gonzalvez, Howard Hill, Albert Lee, Elena Lee, Lisa Lee, Lydia Patterson, Henry Rubin, Eric Sleigh, and Kevin Tran.
Family House
Tonight's well attended meeting followed on the heels of an afternoon tour of Family House down the street on Mission Bay Boulevard North led by Chief Development Officer Michele Martinez Reese from Family House and Past President Christopher Wiseman from our Club. Family House serves as a home away from home for families of children with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses by providing physical comfort and emotional support, free from financial concerns. This Rotary year our Club awarded Family House a $5,000 grant to fund the Family House Dinner Program.
The Rotary Club of San Francisco Board of Directors met on July 23, 2024 via Zoom. President Bob Hermann called his first meeting to order at 4:01 PM. Nancy Graydon, Secretary, recorded the minutes.
In attendance were Gary Dales, Tim Hornbecker, Margaret Miley, Maureen O’Shea, President Bob Hermann, Immediate Past President Sunny Singh, Darlene Wilson, Ozan Yasavur, Nancy Graydon, and President-Elect Frank Yoke, constituting a quorum. Absent were: Dan Davies, Stephen Geisheker, Bridget Mahoney, and Todd St Vrain. Our guests were San Francisco Rotary Foundation President Christopher Wiseman, Executive Secretary Dora Dye, and Dan Joraanstad.

Aditi Desai, Community Outreach Manager for the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine (CIRM), will talk about CIRM's mission to accelerate science and deliver transformative regenerative medicine treatments equitably to California and the world.
Join Family House, a grant partner for the Rotary Club of San Francisco, for an opportunity to set up, serve, and clean up dinner for their community. Event is limited to 10 people, and Rotarians may bring a guest. All must register. Volunteers are encouraged to wear Rotary-branded attire that can get dirty, as well as layers to be prepared for multiple weather conditions. Dinners will be served outside on the Family House patio.
Bring in the holiday season early by joining us for our Rotary Club's Friendsgiving with lots of food, drink, games, and Rotary fellowship. This event is open to all Rotarians from the Rotary Club of San Francisco, their families, and guests. Registration is limited to 25 people.
Meghan Freebeck, Chief Executive Officer and Founder of the global nonprofit — Simply the Basics, talks about the basic needs in a challenging world and the global impact of Simply the Basics.
Our November movie is Free the Mind, a documentary that explores how the practices of Buddhist monks, including meditation and yoga, can physically modify the brains of veterans suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress and children with Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder. This event is open to Rotarians, their friends, and family.
Join us for our Club's NEXT EVENING MEETING where we will conduct some Club business, have dinner, and enjoy Rotary fellowship. There is no charge to attend this meeting, but each attendee pays individually for food and beverages ordered at MoMo's. Please register yourself and your guests so that we can plan the space.
It's time for one of our most popular service projects - Thanksgiving at The Arc San Francisco! In the spirit of giving thanks, Rotarians will gather to provide a Thanksgiving feast for participants at The Arc SF. Many hands are needed to either serve or be on the clean-up team; please sign up to help. This is the only Thanksgiving celebration for many of the people we serve that day. And they are most appreciative.

Join us at one or both of the Baby Showers at the Homeless Prenatal Program where we will give expectant mothers diaper bags filled with supplies. The party for Spanish speakers starts at 10 AM; the party for English speakers starts at 1 PM. Registration is limited to two Rotarians at each shower.
