Twice a year the Rotary Club of San Francisco distributes books collected from Rotarians and destined for hospitals in the city of San Francisco. Rotary members may bring a few books to the luncheon meetings or deliver cartons of books to the Rotary office at 55 New Montgomery St. any time that is convenient.
The cochairs, Burton Berry and Steve Swaab, pack them up and Past President Steve Talmadge’s company, Special T Delivery, then delivers them to five hospitals in the city. The books are screened by volunteers at the hospitals and distributed to patients as gifts. Each book is stamped with the seal of the Rotary Club of San Francisco.
Burt figures that about 7,000 books have been donated to hospitals in the past 10 years. The books can be paperback or hardcover, fiction or nonfiction, as long as they are in good condition and appropriate for patients in hospital care.
